Rock Against Racism 2025: Washington Square Park

On Sunday, August 10, 2025, the American Archives of the Counter Culture hosted
Rock Against Racism in Washington Square Park, NYC. The sun was out, the amps were up, and the
community came together for a day of music, truth, and respect.

Gratitude and Opening

Huge thanks to Chris Iconicide for capturing the event on tape, and to everyone who
performed, worked behind the scenes, or came to share in the spirit of the day.

The afternoon began with a beautiful blessing from KaSike RunningCloud,
setting the tone of respect and purpose.

Honoring the Legacy

We were glad to have Dana Beal in attendance, enjoying the music and acknowledging
that RAR has always been about many groups, many shows, many vibes.

Punk, reggae, rock, or beyond — there’s space in this movement for everyone. That diversity is what keeps
the spirit of Rock Against Racism alive.

Music With Conviction

“OUR earth and OUR F*CKING PARK… but that OUR includes others outside of our crew.”

The performances this year were powerful: unapologetic in calling out systemic flaws, yet peaceable in spirit.
Thank you to all who spoke truth with conviction while also respecting the time, place, and audience.

The balance was evident not only in the music but in the way the crowd respected the Earth
(very little litter was left behind) and the families with children playing nearby.
That’s the kind of collective energy we’re proud of.

Working Together

We also want to recognize the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation for its
more professional treatment this year during the permitting process, and to
Will Morrison, Site Manager of the Washington Square Association, for his support.
These partnerships made the event smoother and stronger.

Looking Ahead

For those who came expecting conflict, we’re sorry to disappoint — the only thing we brought was
music and community. Planning is already underway for Rock Against Racism 2026,
and we can’t wait to return to Washington Square Park next August for another unforgettable day.

See you there. ✊
